I was prescribed amoxicillin by my doctor after having been diagnosed with some pretty nasty tonsilitis. I took 4 a day at four different times stretched throughout the day during the full course (which in my case was for around 6 days). After around two days my throat no longer hurt and I was back to eating normal food. It worked really quickly and I was very happy that my GP knew exactly what they were talking about when prescribing it. There are a long list of possible side of effects for this medicine but I only really experienced general tiredness, which of course could have been more to do with the tonsilitis and not so much the medication!

Profile

Amoxicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that fights bacteria. Amoxicillin is used to treat many different types of infection caused by bacteria, such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, gonorrhea, and infections of the ear, nose, throat, skin, or urinary tract. Amoxicillin is also sometimes used together with another antibiotic called clarithromycin (Biaxin) to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. This combination is sometimes used with a stomach acid reducer called lansoprazole (Prevacid).
